Bologna chamber orchestra concert at St. Sophia with Davide Alogna on violin

Ohrid, 24 July 2025 (MIA) — As part of Ohrid Summer festival, the chamber ensemble of the Bologna Municipal Theatre's Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at St. Sophia church at 9 pm, with Davide Alogna as soloist on violin.

The concert program consists of Ottorino Respighi's "Old Dances and Arias for Lute, Suite No. 3: Italian"; Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons: Summer"; Antonio Bazzini's Fantasia on motiffs from Giuseppe Verdi's "La traviata"; Pietro Mascagni's "Cavalleria rusticana: Intermezzo"; Astor Piazzolla's "Invierno Porteño (Winter)"; and Nino Rota's Concerto for Strings.

The Bologna Philharmonic was founded in 2008 by the musicians of the Bologna Municipal Theatre. Since 2022, it has been led by principal conductor Roberto Abbado.

In addition to performing symphony concerts, the Bologna Municipal Theatre's Philharmonic also promotes chamber music, with its soloists giving regular recitals as a chamber orchestra.

Davide Alogna (b. 1980, Palermo) is considered one of Italy’s foremost violinists, attracting notice for his performances of neglected violin concertos of the 20th century. He graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Como and went on to the Conservatoire de Paris for his master’s studies. He has won many prizes, including the Prix d’Interprétation Musicale of the Cité Universitaire de Paris in 2009.

Alogna has performed at renowned venues such as Philharmonie in Berlin, Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Carnegie Hall (Stern Hall) in New York; with acclaimed orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra, La Scala Chamber Orchestra and Tchaikovsky Chamber Orchestra in Moscow; and under prominent conductors including Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta and Bruno Canino.

He is the creator of "Progetto Rode", which earlier in the pandemic gathered 24 famous Italian violinists performing on video the 24 Caprices by Rode to support violin students from all over the world.

Alogna's repertory spans centuries of classical music, from 17th century Bach and Viotti concerts to 20th century pieces. It includes two rarely performed works by major composers: the 1908 Concerto all’antica by Respighi and the Violin Concerto No. 3 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, of which he made the world's premiere recording in 2018. In 2021, Naxos released his recording of Respighi’s violin concerto with the Chamber Orchestra of New York. mr/
