Bochvarski, Zakonjsek at European Mobility Week event promote bikes as alternative mode of transportation

Dojran, 21 September 2023 (MIA) — The green agenda is a high priority of the Ministry of Transport and Communications so it is taking measures for environmental protection and reducing air pollution, Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski said during Dojran's European Mobility Week event he attended with Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community director Matej Zakonjsek and Dojran Mayor Ango Angov to promote bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation.

 

"Starting with the youngest and including all citizens, we want to raise awareness about the use of alternative modes of transportation, which not only reduce air pollution, but also save energy," Minister Bochvarski said.

 

According Transport Community's Zakonjsek, bicycles are an excellent example of how healthy transportation can help protect the environment.

 

"We are actively committed to moving through our cities, our towns, in a different way, in a green and sustainable way, a healthier way," Zakonjsek said.

 

This year, Dojran has joined 2,695 cities from 43 countries worldwide organizing European Mobility Week events.

 

"As a local government, we strive to protect the environment and for this purpose we have undertaken a series of activities to protect Lake Dojran," Dojran Mayor Angov said, adding that the rehabilitation of the collector system and the construction of a treatment plant were a decade-long problem that the municipality was solving together with the Government and with the support of the Slovenian Embassy.

 

"The Municipality of Dojran has also procured 20 electric bikes, as our contribution to environmental protection, which we will offer to tourists and all interested members of the public," he said.

 

The European Mobility Week event in Dojran was attended by local elementary schoolchildren and their teachers. mr/
