Bochvarski: Workgroups to meet soon on high-speed railroad project between Serbia and North Macedonia

Shtip, 18 December 2023 (MIA) — Serbia and North Macedonia have formed workgroups on the construction of the high-speed railroad between the two countries and they will soon have their first working meeting, Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski told reporters Monday.

Pointing out that Serbia's parliamentary elections this weekend had slowed down the communication between the workgroups, Minister Bochvarski said they would nonetheless coordinate on the railroad that is part of the Corridor 10 project and talk to international financial institutions together.

"We are also working together on the rail border crossing between North Macedonia and Serbia, the Tabanovce rail border crossing, which will be on the Macedonian side, and will be shared by both countries," Bochvarski said.

Asked if the high-speed railroad was being designed yet, he said Serbia had a longer section to build first.

"They have to work on the section from Belgrade to Nish first, and then from Nish to Preshevo," the transport minister said. "The latter section, of course, is still in the review stage and we will work on it together."

"Our part of 50 kilometers is from Skopje to the Tabanovce border, and the connection with the Skopje airport," he said, adding that the design of the railroad construction project would begin soon. mr/
