Bitola to host 43rd Manaki Brothers Film Festival in August
Skopje, 20 July 2022 (MIA) - This year's 43rd Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers' Film Festival will take place from August 20 until August 27 in Bitola, or eight whole days, longer than the previous two editions, the festival's director Simeon Moni Damevski announced Wednesday at a news conference on Skopje. The festival will feature various programs, competition and revues as well, he said. "We've returned almost everything other festival editions had offered before given the circumstances, the global economic crisis, inflation, etc," Damevski said. Festival goers will have the chance to watch 14 features in competition and 12 short movies in competition in addition to a documentary selection, selection of student films and a so called "Mak Corner Program", which will showcase producers that have produced Macedonian films in the past two years, but had no funds to make them happen. This year's recipient of the festival's main prize is the British director of photography Anthony Dod Mantle. "The exceptional Dod Mantle will come to Bitola to receive the award," said Damevski. Films will be shown in Bitola that were in competition in the festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Karlovy Vary, in addition to two Macedonian features, namely Darijan Pejovski's Mimi and Kristijan Risteski's Snow White Dies in the End. "Manaki Brothers Festival is very important for the vitality of our society, like many other cultural initiatives, platforms and festivals in the country," said Kumjana Novakova, selector of the program of documentaries, adding that 70 percent of the documentaries were directed by women.
