Bislimoski: Serious chances of cheaper electricity at certain times of day

Skopje, 2 May 2023 (MIA) — The Energy Regulatory Commission is considering the option of introducing cheaper electricity at certain times of day, according to ERC head Marko Bislimoski.

Bislimoski told Telma TV there were "serious chances" that again there would be times of day with "significantly lower" electricity price than the current Mden 7.41 per kWh.

He said the ERC would make its final decision on the price in the next two to three weeks.

Stock market data on electricity were much more optimistic compared to last year, he said, pointing out that for the first time in a long while the stock exchanges recorded a negative daily price of electricity.

When prices are low, he said, it would be more profitable for the national energy provider "to protect domestic resources, coal and water, and get electricity from the market."

"It does not have to be imported, it can be from domestic photovoltaics," Bislimoski said.

Until January 2022, households were paying a cheaper electricity rate during off-peak afternoon hours. This rate was scrapped due to rising global energy prices. mr/
