Berovo joins Interreg Europe project for getting more women into green, digital jobs

Berovo, 2 July 2025 (MIA) -- Berovo Mayor Zvonko Pekevski signed Wednesday a partnership agreement for the Municipality of Berovo to join Interreg Europe's Just Femme project. It aims to support the equal participation of women in emerging green and digital jobs in regions taking steps to phase out coal and other fossil fuels as part of their just transition goals for a more sustainable future, MIA's Berovo correspondent reports.

Together with a team of project managers, Mayor Pekevski took part in the meeting in Kozani, Greece, held to launch the project.

Meeting participants delivered presentations about their work, institutions and cities. They were also assigned project management duties and decided on data collection methods, Pekevski said.

Just Femme will be implemented through July 2029 as a partnership between Greece, Poland, Netherlands, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Latvia and North Macedonia. Involved in the project are five public administrations, two regional development agencies and one higher education institution.

All partners will participate in a series of just transition policy learning activities, which include study visits and workshops with women anticipated to lead in the process of shifting from carbon-intensive industry jobs toward more sustainable ones in an equitable way.

Out of the total budget of EUR 1,574,656, Berovo will receive EUR 118,700 to implement the project.

Interreg Europe is an interregional cooperation program co-funded by the European Union, which strives to reduce disparities in the levels of development, growth and quality of life in and across Europe’s regions. mr/
