Bekteshi: Economy Ministry proposes extending price freeze of basic foodstuffs until end of Feb.
Skopje, 28 January 2022 (MIA) – The Ministry of Economy forwarded to the Government a decision proposing that the price freeze of basic foodstuffs be extended until the end of February 2022, Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi posted on Facebook. North Macedonia’s Government on Dec. 4, 2021, decided to freeze the prices of basic food products in wholesale and retail trade, including bread; sugar; flour – type 400; sunflower oil; milk containing 2.8, 3.2 and 3.5 percent of fat; fresh meat and delicacies, and cheese and cottage cheese. The price freeze was at Dec. 1, 2021 rates, and the decision is valid until Jan. 31, 2022. In addition, on Dec. 14, 2021, the Government decided to also freeze the prices of rice, pasta and eggs. The Government then noted of a possibility to extend the decision after Jan. 31, 2022, should that be still required by the market situation.
