Bekim Sali to succeed Izet Mexhiti as first deputy prime minister
- Outgoing First Deputy Prime Minister Izet Mexhiti will be succeeded by Bekim Sali, Worth It coalition spokesman Driton Sulejmani told a press conference Tuesday.
Skopje, 4 November 2025 (MIA) — Outgoing First Deputy Prime Minister Izet Mexhiti will be succeeded by Bekim Sali, Worth It coalition spokesman Driton Sulejmani told a press conference Tuesday.
Mexhiti, who was elected Chair Mayor in the local election, also held the post of Minister of Environment and Physical Planning. That post will be filled by another person, Sulejmani said, adding that the Worth It coalition has not decided who to nominate yet.
Asked to comment on their political opponent DUI in the elections' aftermath, he said Worth It did not expect any dramatic changes in the party.
"We hope they will take the citizens' message seriously and reform, but we expect those reforms will take a little while. Given how they have acted on the political scene so far, we are not very optimistic there will actually be any changes," Sulejmani said.
Previously, summarizing the mayoral voting results, he said the Worth It coalition had won 10 mayoral races — Tetovo, Bogovinje, Tearce, Chair, Saraj, Arachinovo, Zhelino, Debar, Struga and Dolneni — which made it the absolute winner in the ethnic Albanian political camp.
Sulejmani also said the voters had voted for politicians who would work hard, take responsibility and deliver results. mr/
