Berlin, 13 March 2024 (dpa/MIA) - A quick-fire double from Fermín López and João Cancelo helped Barcelona into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over Napoli while Arsenal needed penalties and goalkeeper David Raya to get past Porto on Tuesday.

Barca came into the game at the Olympic Stadium locked at 1-1 with last season's Italian champions but any nerves were quickly soothed, with Raphinha at the heart of everything.

First the Brazil winger cut the ball back for 20-year-old López - yet another Barcelona youth prospect - to bury a cool finish on 15 minutes and soon after the hosts broke quickly up the field again.

Raphinha's effort hit the post but bounced straight to Portugal full back Cancelo, who made no mistake.

Napoli were initially stunned but just like in the first leg, they found their way back into the game from nowhere when defender Amir Rrahmani finished off a good move on the half hour.

It was almost 2-2 moments later but for Marc-André ter Stegen making a fine save from captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo's header.

They had further scares but Barca, looking for a sixth European Cup to give departing coach Xavi the perfect leaving gift, made it 3-1 through Robert Lewandowski on 83 minutes to seal a 4-2 aggregate win.

"I think we played very well," Lewandowski told Amazon Prime. "If we had been better with our final pass...it could have been three or four at half-time."

They also could have made life even easier in the second half at their temporary home but 16-year-old Lamine Yamal was offside when netting and later missed a good chance.

Xavi is quitting after the defence of their LaLiga title faltered this term, but he was a four-time Champions League winner as a player for the Catalans so knows what it takes to lift European club football's ultimate prize.

Napoli's Rrahmani, who netted his first Champions League goal, said: "It was very difficult for us to come back into the game. They are not the big Barcelona of old but they have very talented players."

In London, Arsenal came into the second leg 1-0 down to the 1987 and 2004 champions Porto. But the hosts were back level on aggregate four minutes before the break when Belgium's Leandro Trossard cut inside and fired into the corner of the net.

Porto's Evanilson was earlier denied by Spaniard Raya while the Gunners also came close through Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard in the first half.

Arsenal, 2006 runners-up to Barca and one of the biggest European clubs never to win the big prize, are enjoying another strong season under Mikel Arteta and top the Premier League.

They pushed to try to win it in normal time but Ødegaard's effort was ruled out for a foul and substitute Gabriel Jesus had an effort saved by Diogo Costa, who was symbolic of Porto's gritty display.

Porto captain Pepe, 41, was still commanding in defence during the additional 30 minutes and Arsenal became increasingly frustrated despite having a raft of corners and most of the ball.

A shoot-out ensued and Brazilians Wendell and Galeno had spot-kicks superbly saved by Raya as the Londoners prevailed 4-2 on penalties.

"It means everything to be in the quarter-finals," Raya said. "You play football for these kinds of things. I'm over the moon. We're going to celebrate together and enjoy the night."

Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all progressed to the quarter-finals last weekend.

On Wednesday, Atletico Madrid are 1-0 behind when they welcome Inter and Borussia Dortmund host PSV Eindhoven after drawing 1-1 in the first leg.
