Skopje, 7 June 2022 (MIA) - The President of the Economic Chamber of the North Macedonia Branko Azeski demands that the state immediately takes measures that would fend off a possible escalation of the situation next winter. This requires savings by the state, the citizens and companies, particularly in terms of electricity.
“We should openly say that the country is in a difficult situation, and I demand serious action in this regard. We have conditions that can definitely hit economic activity very hard - companies closing down and jobs being cut,” Azeski said.
According to him, the state is focused on supporting the citizens, but if it doesn’t understand that support to companies is also needed, if that doesn’t happen "we will face major issues".
“I’d use all mechanisms that can fend off the situation that may escalate with the coming of winter,” said the President of the Chamber.
Particularly problematic, according to him, could be the increase in the price of electricity that affects the work of companies.
“To create conditions for something that can be done realistically, to reduce consumption, to increase production, to do what is possible at the moment, because we are wasting time with each passing day until the heating season which, when it arrives, significant problems will emerge,” says Azeski.
According to him, there are major indications of unusual movements in the companies in the area of transactions, especially in companies that trade and that there may be inflationary pressure from that side.
