Austria bulks up border surveillance as more migrants try to enter
Vienna, 24 July 2021 (dpa/MIA) - Austria is stepping up surveillance of its border as more migrants are entering the country again, said Interior Minister Karl Nehammer and Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner said on Saturday.
About 400 additional soldiers are to initially be sent to the border.
"We are seeing that the number of people apprehended at the Austrian border is increasing again," Nehammer said.
The border with Hungary is said to be particularly affected.
Some 200 smugglers have already been arrested this year.
"The goal is to control migration movements," said Tanner.
