Washington, 27 July 2025 (dpa/MIA) - At least 11 people were stabbed in a supermarket in the US state of Michigan on Saturday, local authorities said.

A suspect was detained after the incident in Traverse City, some 400 kilometres north-west of Detroit, local police said.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea said in a press conference that the stabbings at a Walmart appeared to have been "random acts." He added that there was "citizen involvement" in apprehending the suspect.

A hospital in the city confirmed on Facebook that 11 people were being treated there.

Traverse City is located in the north of the US on Lake Michigan.
