Skopje, 17 October 2025 (MIA) — The Association of Macedonian Publishers is promoting contemporary Macedonian writers and illustrators at the 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's largest for the book trade, held in the western German city on Oct. 15-19.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Trade in a press release, this year's Macedonian booth at the annual fair was designed with the motto "Read in 7/8: Stories with a unique beat" to connect the "unpredictable originality of our contemporary authors with the uneven and surprising 7/8 rhythm characteristic of Macedonian music."
The booth has been set up at the fair's Hall 4.1, an area for international exhibitors. On display are books by the authors being promoted as well as some of their foreign language translations.
Macedonian exhibitors have also produced a website and two catalogs showcasing some 70 authors and 20 illustrators.
Seven members of the Association of Macedonian Publishers are attending, with children's book author Biljana S. Crvenkovska scheduled to take part in two promotional events, the release said.
According to German news agency dpa, the Frankfurt Book Fair opened to the public Friday after two days of industry events. It is expected to draw 200,000 visitors by Sunday. Exhibitors from 92 countries are attending, along with more than 1,000 authors.
This year's guest of honor is the Philippines, which will showcase the country’s rich literary tradition and diverse cultural heritage under the literary motto “The Imagination Peoples the Air.”
The book fair will end with the presentation of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade to historian Karl Schlögel. The 2025 Nobel Prize for Literature winner László Krasznahorkai, who was to speak at the opening press conference, had to cancel his appearance at short notice for health reasons. mr/
