Art is an act of bravery, Pendarovski says at opening ceremony of Manaki Brothers Film Festival
Bitola, 20 August 2022 (MIA) - Cinema is the voice of complex significance of reality because it speaks on behalf of both utopias and dystopias and art is an act of bravery because it aims at facing the reality rather than reproducing it, President Stevo Pendarovski said opening the Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers' Film Festival in Bitola.
Pendarovski, who serves as patron of the festival, said that film festivals should be the core of progressiveness in aesthetics and in broader social sense. "Our festival of directors of photography that features rich selection of features and documentaries, reaffirms it is exactly such a core in continuity," he stated.
Speaking at the opening day, Culture Minister Bisera Kostadinovska Stojchevska said the Manaki Brothers festival is the oldest in the world dedicated to the art and love of cinematography.
An honorary Golden Camera 300 was presented to to years-long IMAGO president Nigel Walters. Late film worker and producer Gorjan Tozija was presented a posthumous recognition and the British-Danish cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle was awarded with the Golden Camera 300 for lifetime achievement.
