Mexico City, 26 September 2023 (dpa/MIA) - American incumbent David Haggerty on Sunday was re-elected with a new four-year term as president of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) at the organization's annual meeting in Cancún, Mexico.
Haggerty, who will keep his seat after a 318-118 vote over German challenger Dietloff von Arnim, will enter his third term in office which will go until 2027. Von Arnim will serve as one of 14 members of the ITF board.
The election came after Haggerty came under criticism after the ITF had to prematurely terminate the billion-dollar deal with a group of investors over the rights to the Davis Cup.
Von Arnim, president of the German Tennis Association (DTB) and the only opposing candidate, wanted to replace Haggerty after eight years. Von Arnim ran with the promise of more democratic processes, innovations and greater participation by smaller tennis nations.
