Alternativa to join government, parliamentary majority
Tetovo, 4 December 2021 (MIA) – Alternativa will join the government and the parliamentary majority, according to a decision reached Saturday evening by the Central Council, the party’s top body.
Alternativa’s spokesman Orhan Murtezani said the decision was reached by majority of votes in the Central Council.
Leader of the party Afrim Gashi informed Saturday’s session at Alternativa’s headquarters in Tetovo about the course of negotiations so far and the program points agreed upon, as well as the obligations undertaken.
According to Murtezani, the reason for Alternativa joining the government is the historic moment for opening EU accession negotiations and closing the dispute with Bulgaria as goals of the country, as well as of the Albanians because that will pave the way for the European integration of the whole region.
“We additionally agreed that the government should seek international investigation into cases where there’s suspicion of political implication, including Monster, Alfa, Divo Naselje, Almir Aliu, etc. We also agreed on points related to balanced regional development, economic development of the Lipkovo region, protection of the family as the core unit of society, which is our basic program definition, as well as protection of the price of electricity, which is extremely important at this time. We believe that reaching these agreements is a great victory for our country, for the Albanians in North Macedonia and beyond, as well as a party victory of Alternativa,” said Murtezani.
By joining the government, the party’s spokesman stressed, Alternativa proved that it is the key to resolving the crisis, and not just a décor with four MPs, and it will take on important responsibilities.
“We will take on important responsibilities in the area of health, fight against crime and corruption, energy, organization of the diaspora, as well as education, culture and raising the quality of life of the citizens, supporting the economic life of all citizens in the country,” Murtezani said.
Alternativa leader Afrim Gashi and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will give all details about the agreement on Alternativa joining the government on Sunday at 1 pm at the MPs Club, where they will formally sign the program for joint action.
