London, 29 June 2025 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is full of confidence as he prepares for his title defence with an eye on a third successive men’s singles victory.
The Spaniard comes into the tournament in superb form having defeated Jannik Sinner in a marathon final to retain his French Open trophy and followed up by winning at Queen's for a second time.
Although a third successive win would place him amongst an elite group of multiple consecutive winners, his focus remains on the triumph itself for now.
He said: “I’m coming here thinking that I really want to win the title, I really want to lift the trophy. I’m not thinking about how many players have done it, winning three Wimbledons in a row.
“I’m just thinking that I want to be ready and just want to prepare myself in the best way possible, just to start the tournament with a lot of confidence. Obviously I feel a lot of confidence right now.
“It’s the start of the tournament, two weeks could be really long on a grand slam, but right now I’m not thinking about who I could join if I win three Wimbledons in a row.”
Alcaraz came from two sets down to take the French Open final from Sinner, who admitted it would be difficult not to dwell on the defeat given the circumstances.
The world number one returned to action in the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle and has arrived at Wimbledon ready to put the loss behind him.
He said: “Honestly, I feel ready to play. I feel ready. We are practising very well. What happened in the past is in the past already.
“I feel good. Especially mentally, I feel in a very good spot. Halle was a little bit different, because before I haven’t had so much time to cut that off.
“We are working very hard. I feel like I’m playing great tennis on grass.
“I’m just looking forward to go on court and to compete and enjoy the time on the courts.”
Ahead of Wimbledon Sinner has parted ways with two members of his team, trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio, with the decision made shortly after his appearance in Halle.
He said: “Nothing major happened. Nothing big happened. I parted ways not long ago, but it’s not affecting me.
“We made some great work. For me the final in Roland Garros was an amazing achievement. That’s it. Look, in this sport things can happen.”
