Skopje, 2 October 2023 (MIA) - The Albanian opposition parties - Besa Movement, Alternativa, and the Democratic Movement will not vote for the constitutional amendments unless the wording of "20 percent of the population speaking Albanian language" is removed from the Constitution, and unless an amendment on combating corruption is accepted.

Besa MP Fadil Zendeli told Monday's press conference at the Parliament he will not support the constitutional amendments unless they include removing the wording "20 percent Albanian language".

Democratic Movement MP Merita Koxhaxhiku also said the party remains of the position that it won't back the constitutional changes.

"This has always been the position of the Democratic Moevemnt's parliamentary group. To this moment, we maintain the same position," she said.

Alternativa MP Safije Sadiku Shaini stressed that the party will not back the constitutional amendments unless their amendment on corruption is accepted.

"Alternativa has already stated that first we need to have our constitutional amendment against corruption accepted. We will not vote for the constitutional amendments unless this amendment is accepted," she said.
