Albania ratifies joint border control agreement with N. Macedonia
Tirana, 25 November 2021 (MIA) – Albanian Parliament on Thursday ratified an agreement on joint border controls between North Macedonia and Albania, MIA’s Tirana correspondent reported.
“Albania and North Macedonia will have joint border controls following the same model we’re sharing with Kosovo and Montenegro, said Interior Minister Bledi Cuci in his address in Parliament, whose session started with a moment of silence in tribute to the victims of the bus accident in Bulgaria.
The main goal, he added, is to facilitate movement of people and goods, increase cooperation in meeting common security interest and swift information sharing, strengthen the capacities of border police officers and control the quality of the implementation of the border control law.
“I believe it is clear that the agreement aims to strengthen ties with our neighbor and we believe it serves our joint EU efforts and the Open Balkan initiative,” Minister Cuci said.
