Albania on verge of flu epidemic, with RSV and SARS-CoV-2 also circulating
Tirana, 12 January 2023 (MIA) — Albanian health authorities recorded 14,000 cases of flu this week, a rise of 2,000 compared to last week, according to latest official figures released by Albania’s Public Health Institute on Thursday.
“Yet these numbers are only the people who asked for medical help. Many people suffering with the flu don’t go to the doctor but stay at home taking medicines prescribed to another family member or bought over the counter,” Top Channel reported.
If the official number reaches 16,000 flu cases, which is expected to happen next week, the country will enter a flu epidemic, the TV station said.
The country’s epidemiological situation is even more difficult because, according to Albanian doctors cited by the report, also circulating are Respiratory Syncytial Virus and SARS-CoV-2. mr/
