Agreement on Hungarian loan to be incorporated in law going through transparent procedure in Government and Parliament

Agreement on Hungarian loan to be incorporated in law going through transparent procedure in Government and Parliament

Skopje, 22 July 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski does not know where the Hungarian loan funds come from, but says it will be incorporated into a law that goes through a transparent procedure in the Government and the Parliament.

PM Mickoski told Telma that the low interest rates of the Hungarian loan would save the country over EUR 100 million.

"This is a special cooperation agreement, government-to-government, based on our needs. This is also a result of my personal friendship and the talks we have had over the past period regarding the support we would require if elected, and we have indeed received this support. We should give Orban a medal, hail him as a hero for helping us by providing direct support. I do not know whether the Hungarian government is obtaining these funds on the open market or on its own. I am interested in incorporating the agreement into a law that will not be 'smuggled in'", says Mickoski.

He claims that Hungary has no additional requirements regarding the loan.

"We put everything on the table when we make an agreement. Are there any requirements, no. Does Orban have any requirements, no. Have I said anything like this, no," adds the PM.

Asked if there have been any remarks by EU ambassadors over the cooperation with Orban, Mickoski says "we decide on this".
