37th Ohrid Swimming Marathon ends with winners from Brazil and France

Ohrid, 1 September 2024 (MIA) – Brazil’s Matheus Evangelista and France’s Caroline Jouisse are the winners of this year’s Ohrid Swimming Marathon that took place yesterday in Ohrid.

Evangelista finished the 25-kilometer-long marathon first swimming for 5:45:05 and Jouisse took 5:46:51 to finish the race first.

Evangelista also competed in 2015 and 2016 finishing second and third respectively. He said it wasn’t easy to swim in Lake Ohrid this year, adding the weather conditions during most of the race were unfavourable with string winds and waves.

“It was really hard, but the hard work paid off. I feel great now, like a winner,” he told MIA.

Of the male swimmers, Marcel Schouten from the Netherlands finished second and North Macedonia’s Evgenij Pop Acev was third.

Of the female swimmers, Argentina’s Mayte Puca and Ines Delacroix from France were second and third respectively.

The Ohrid Swimming Marathon, in its 37th year, is the closing event of the Water Festival, organized by the Municipality of Ohrid with support by the Ministry for Sports and the Swimming Federation of Macedonia.
