‘Magna Mirrors’ plant opens in Struga economic zone
Struga, 12 October 2022 (MIA) – Plant of Canadian company “Magna Mirrors”, part of Magna International, one of the largest automotive suppliers in the world, opened in the Struga technological-industrial development zone on Wednesday. Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski told the official opening that the company’s decision to open a plant in North Macedonia is owed to the country’s NATO membership and the start of the EU accession negotiations, but also the positive business environment promoted by the state. “Young people working here would have departed for an EU country if the plant had not opened. Therefore, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Magna management for choosing North Macedonia as the site for this high-tech facility,” said PM Kovachevski. The company will employ about 1,300 people and the state’s support for the investment is about 50 percent. Magna International Vice President David Crespy said the company has a broad portfolio and holds the fourth spot in the respective industry in global terms, whereas Magna Mirrors is a leader in the manufacturing of interior mirrors, exterior mirrors, actuators and door handles. “What started as an idea in 2018 is now a reality. Our investment amounts to about EUR 35 million, with a facility of 17,000m2 and over a 1,000 employees,” said Crespy. Head of the Free Zones Authority Jovan Despotovski said they are continuing to work hard, expecting foreign direct investments (FDIs) to double in the coming period. Magna International Inc. is a Canadian mobility technology company headquartered in Ontario, Canada, and it is one of the largest automotive suppliers in the world.
