‘Between Revolutions’ wins main award at 14th MakeDox Film Festival

Skopje, 25 August 2023 (MIA) – Vlad Petri’s documentary film “Between Revolutions” won the “Onion” main award, while Mariam Cachia and Nik Voigt’s “The Magic Mountain” received the “Young Onion” award at the 14th edition of the MakeDox Creative Documentary Film Festival, which concluded Thursday evening at Kurshumli-an, Skopje.
Each year the festival hands out the awards “Onion” for best film from the Main Program, “Young Onion” for a film from the “Newcomers” program, “Sliced Onion” for best short documentary, “Onion Seed” for best student film and the “Moral Approach Award”.
The 14th edition of MakeDox consisted of an eight-day film programme with 75 documentary films screened at four locations in Skopje.
The Festival’s jury handed the “Onion” main award to “Between Revolutions” by Romanian director Vlad Petri, and a Special Mention for Alisa Kovalenko’s “We Will Not Fade Away”.
Mariam Chachia and Nik Voigt’s film “The Magic Mountain” won the “Young Onion” award for best documentary from the “Newcomers” programme. “The House of Wandering Souls” by Pablo Lago Dantas received the Special Mention in this category.
The “Sliced Onion” award for best documentary short was awarded to Evgenia Arbugaeva and Maxim Arbugaev’s short “Haulout”, with a Special Mention given to “At The Water’s Edge” by María Elorza and Iñigo Salaberria.
“Achewiq, The Song Of The Brave Women” by Elina Kastler won the best student film award “Onion Seed”. A Special Mention was given to “Budapest Silo” by Zsófia Paczolay.
The “Moral Approach Award” was awarded to Nicolas Philibert for “On The Adamant”.
This year’s MakeDox was supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency, the Creative Europe MEDIA Programme, National Endowment for Democracy, Ministry of Culture, the Yunus Emre Institute in Skopje, Czech Embassy in Skopje, Czech Cultural Centre in Sofia, Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain, French Institute, Greek Cultural Centre, MEDIA Desk MK, Documentary Association of Europe, Vardar Film, Youth Cultural Centre, Museum of North Macedonia, Archeological Museum, Faculty of Fine Arts at UKIM, National Gallery of North Macedonia, Global Taxi.
