'Gerresheimer' opens second plant in Skopje zone, opens 180 new jobs

Skopje, 24 February 2023 (MIA) - German company "Gerresheimer" is launching its second investment in technological-industrial development zone (TIDZ) Skopje 2, building a second plant for special-purpose medical glass and vaccine syringes.

The "Gerresheimer" investment has now reached over EUR 126 million, a record since the establishment of TIDZs in the country.

"About four years ago, 'Gerresheimer' made a bold step by investing in the construction of a plant for medicine plastic here in TIDZ Skopje. Our country was selected as its destination and now the foundations have been laid for the company's second plant in Southeast Europe, at a time when the entire world is facing one of the biggest crises in recent history resulting from the coronavirus," Prime Minister DImitar Kovachevski said at the event.

The PM said the investment is the right decision at the right time.

"The company's initial investment has reached EUR 65 million, with 100 of our fellow citizens already working here. The construction of the second plant for special-purpose medical glass and vaccine syringes will bring the investment to over EUR 126 million, along with 180 new jobs," noted Kovachevski.

TIDZ director Jovan Despotovski said North Macedonia, although small, can provide a serious contribution amid the global challenges.

"We have an investment in the pharmaceutical field, the sector of the 21st century. This is a serious step forward," said Despotovski.

German Deputy-Head of Mission Otto Graf said manufacturing is an important aspect of life for both countries, adding the fact that the German company opted to invest in North Macedonia is a natural choice.
