Durmishi: Government and business - partners in building a modern and sustainable economy

Skopje, 17 September 2025 (MIA) - The Government and the businesses are partners in building a modern and sustainable economy, said Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi in his remarks at Wednesday's "Business Leader" conference that brings together the best entrepreneurs, visionaries and companies that move the Macedonian economy forward.

Minister Durmishi said the conference is a symbol of the will, capacity and responsibility in strengthening the economy's foundations and creating a better future for citizens, the Ministry of Economy and Labor said in a press release.

"Our vision is clear - Macedonia to become a green, digital and innovative economy, with strong entrepreneurship and culture of innovations in every company. It is only through partnership between the public and private sector that we can ensure stable growth, new jobs and a better standard for all citizens," said Durmishi.

He said the Government is already implementing reforms for enhancement of the business environment, investment attraction and putting in place conditions so that young people can build their future at home.

"Support for startups, investments in research and development, and digitization of public services are concrete steps in creating a modern and more competitive business environment. In addition, green transformation - from energy transition, via renewables to introducing environmental practices - is our priority, because it is an obligation we have before future generations and a new opportunity for growth and competitiveness," noted Durmishi.

He also referred to the new laws and strategies, such as the Law on Financial Support of Investments, the Laws on Technological-Industrial Zones and Green Industrial Zones, the Strategy for Small and Medium Enterprises 2025-2030 and the 2025 Operational Employment Plan.

"These policies stimulate entrepreneurship and create a competitive workforce that responds to the requirements of a contemporary economy," said Durmishi.

The Minister also said the new law on labor relations would enter into force on 1 January 2026, aimed at lowering the rate of informal labor and increasing employability, especially among seasonal workers.

"The economy must be inclusive. Every new job, every startup and every investment in know-how is an investment in our country's future. Each measure supporting the companies and each training of young people reaffirm the vision that Macedonia is a place where every potential can be realized," said Durmishi.
