Digital Transformation Ministry: EU approval of new Growth Plan funds a recognition of reforms led by ministry

Skopje, 18 October 2025 (MIA) - The Ministry of Digital Transformation welcomed on Saturday the European Commission’s decision to approve the second release of funds to North Macedonia under the Reform and Growth Facility for the Western Balkans, in the amount of EUR 16 million.

“Within its technical assessment the European Commission assessed that the four reforms have been successfully realized, three of which are in the field of digital transformation, which represents a significant recognition of the reform processes led by the Ministry of Digital Transformation,” the Ministry said in a press release.

According to the Ministry, the reforms pertain to the adoption of the Law on Security of Network and Information Systems, compliant with the EU NIS2 Directive; the Law on Electronic Documents, Electronic Identification, and Trust Services, which introduces the European Digital Identity; and the Law on Archival Material which establishes a framework for electronic archiving in public administration.

“This decision represents a concrete confirmation that the European institutions recognize and support our work aimed at creating a safe, connected, and modern digital country. The implemented legislation lays the foundations for a long-term transformation of the public administration and the creation of better, faster, and more secure services for the citizens,” Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski said.

Of the total sum, EUR 7.4 million will be paid directly to the state budget, while the remaining funds are earmarked for financing infrastructure projects through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
