Zelensky sets conditions for attendance at Davos

Kiev, 21 January 2026 (dpa/MIA) - President Volodymyr Zelensky has made his attendance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos dependent on sealing contracts or securing pledges of aid for Ukraine.

"If the documents are ready, then there will be a meeting (with US President Donald Trump) and a trip," Zelensky told journalists, according to Ukrainian media reports on Tuesday.

He would also make the journey to the Swiss alpine resort if there were pledges of further support for Ukraine's power sector or of additional air defence systems, Zelensky said.

"But thus far, I have a task here in Ukraine, and for me it is essential to coordinate all services here," he added.

Kiev is hoping for security guarantees and funds for economic reconstruction under a US-led peace plan to end the war with Russia, but talks on the plan remained deadlocked.

Ukraine has been warding off a Russian full-scale invasion since February 2022.
