World Teachers' Day: Education Ministry launches campaign to raise awareness about teachers' role in society

Skopje, 5 October 2025 (MIA) – By launching a campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of knowledge and the irreplaceable role of teachers in the society, the Ministry of Education and Science on Sunday marked World Teachers’ Day. The campaign, dubbed “Magic is Knowledge”, kicked off with two panels dedicated to the institutional approach toward education, teachers’ status, their challenges and needs and the way society values their dedication and influence.

With hundred representatives of the academic and teaching community in attendance, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska, UNICEF Resident Representative Lesley Miller, and Lidija Nikolovska-Georgievska, dean of the Skopje Faculty of Pedagogy and president of the Association of Teachers of Macedonia, conveyed a message that “teachers are the heroes of our time, they don’t wear capes, but with love, patience and dedication every day they create real magic – conveying the light of knowledge to young people,” the Education Ministry said.

Congratulating teachers on their day, Minister Janevska said they play a crucial role in shaping the future of our children and of the country. “Which is why the institutions together with partners are trying to improve their social and economic status and restore dignity of the teaching profession,” she stressed.

The Government, said Janevska, will continue to support the teaching community and to open fresh opportunities for their development and to further develop the Macedonian educational system.

As part of the event, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Association of Teachers of Macedonia presented the Teacher of the Year award for the 2024/2025 school year. The recognition is seen as an act of public recognition and a symbol of wider commitment to building a society that actively support and values the role of educators, teachers and professional associates, said the press release.
