Skopje, 5 May 2025 (MIA) — In a video message of congratulations on Macedonian Language Day spoken entirely in Macedonian, Ambassador of the United States to North Macedonia Angela P. Aggeler and other US diplomats said they were learning Macedonian before their arrival in Skopje. They also said they were learning Macedonian folk sayings, too, including "Bez maka nema nauka" ("No pain, no learning science").

Published earlier Monday on social media, the US Embassy's Macedonian Language Day video features diplomats speaking Macedonian-language sayings that translate to English as "The early bird catches the worm"; "You reap what you sow"; "A lie has no legs"; "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today"; and "A good deed is never lost."

Some uniquely Macedonian folk sayings spoken in Macedonian by the US diplomats include proverbs that translate to English as "Better to labor in vain than to sit around in vain"; "Patience is salvation"; "Good brotherhood feels nicer than riches"; "A book is bottomless"; and "Your mind is not in your pocket but in your head." mr/
