Trajkov – Kawahara: Japanese support for prosperous economic development

Skopje, 22 September 2025 (MIA) - Deputy Minister of European Affairs Viktorija Trajkov held a meeting Monday with Japan’s Ambassador to North Macedonia, Setsuko Kawahara, discussing the bilateral relations, multilateral cooperation, the country’s EU path, and Japan’s assistance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
“Reforms and regional stability remain our top priority. We also discussed opportunities to deepen economic and cultural exchange as an important bridge between our peoples. I am convinced that through joint initiatives we will contribute to closer ties and stronger partnership,” Trajkov said.
Ambassador Kawahara voiced Japan’s support for the European perspective and the enhancement of cultural cooperation as a bridge between the two nations, while also highlighting Japan’s readiness for further cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
“We recognize the shared interest in sustainable development, innovations, and culture as a field with great potential for cooperation. In that context, we agreed to continue our dialogue and concrete projects that will benefit the citizens,” the Japanese Ambassador said, according to the Ministry of European Affairs.
“The meeting,” the Ministry said, “represents a new impetus for further improvement of the friendly relations between Macedonia and Japan.”
