Toshkovski: Safe City developed to improve traffic safety, reduce accidents and fatalities

Skopje, 25 January 2026 (MIA) - This system is being developed with the single aim of improving traffic safety and decreasing accidents, injuries, and fatalities, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski wrote on Facebook, adding that he visited site Sunday where the final testing of cameras for automatic traffic violation detection is underway as part of the Safe City project.

He noted that the speed measurement is currently being tested, with any deviations minimal and well within legal limits, ensuring the system’s reliability and safety.

During the first phase, Toshkovski stated, the cameras will be put into operation at high-risk locations, with the system gradually expanding nationwide throughout the year. In parallel, he said, Interior Ministry vehicles equipped with mobile cameras will also be deployed, particularly at designated black spots.

“The system does not identify individuals, only their actions. It does not recognize names, functions, or positions, recording solely traffic violations. The law applies equally to all, and this approach will lead to greater traffic discipline and more lives saved,” Toshkovski underlined.
