Ten years since deadly Kumanovo shootout between security forces and gunmen

Kumanovo, 9 May 2025 (MIA) – Friday marks ten years since the deadly shootout in a settlement of Kumanovo called Divo Naselje. Eight members of the security forces were killed during the incident on May 9-10, which left 37 policemen injured.
Ljubisha Arangelovikj, Boban Ivanovikj, Goran Ilijevski, Zharko Kuzmanovski, Isamedin Osmani, Sasho Samojlovski, Nenad Serafimovski and Goran Stojmenovik were killed during the 28-hour shootout, who were decorated with medals of bravery posthumously.

A memorial plaque in honor of the killed policemen was unveiled at the Kumanovo Internal Affairs Sector. Also, the security forces members who lost their lives in the 2015 anti-terrorist operation were immortalized in a mural dubbed “Heroes Live Forever” in downtown Kumanovo.
For two days on May 9-10, Kumanovo lived in fear after shootouts began between the security forces and gunmen in the densely populated area in Kumanovo, known locally as Divo Naselje. Its residents were evacuated as the area was cordoned off by the Macedonian security forces.
