Skopje to get 100 new buses, says Mayor Gjorgjievski

Skopje, 3 February 2026 (MIA) - The Government has taken a decision over the procurement of 100 eco-friendly buses, a move that will change the daily routine of thousands of Skopje citizens who use public transport, says Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski.

"As Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has said, the City of Skopje will get 100 buses and 50 chargers, leading to a safe, timely and decent public transport, but also benefiting the environment and clean air, which we owe to our children and future generations. This decision is part of the strategic agreement between our government and the government of Hungary, a procurement made under exceptionally favorable criteria," Mayor Gjorgjievski says in a Facebook post.

He expects that the new buses will solve the long-standing problem related to public transport in the capital.

"Let me assure you, we are heading for tectonic changes for the better. Skopje will again become a city we are proud of, a city with dignity, order and vision. I would like to sincerely thank PM Mickoski for his unconditional support and commitment to the citizens. Nothing would be possible if not for his support, amid the collapse that we inherited. My fellow Skopje citizens, we will no longer ask ourselves if we can do better, we will live the better together," says Gjorgjievski.

Last week, PM Mickoski told reporters that 150 electric buses would be procured for Skopje and other municipalities, noting that the loan would be repaid in 15 years, under a 3.25-percent interest rate.

Skopje will get 100 buses and 50 chargers, while other municipalities are set to receive 50 buses and 25 chargers.
