Siljanovska Davkova on EC report: Technical assessment at times presented through political lens

Resen, 11 November 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova said Tuesday the technical assessment in European Commission reports can, at times, be presented through a political lens.

"As a person who has seen many reports in my life, and a lawmaker who has discussed every report, my conclusion is that reports should be more of a technical representation because they do diagnostics, classify and evaluate. I always say, a report should not only refer to the one who is evaluated but the evaluator as well. The technical dimension is dominating in our progress reports but the political dimension is also there. To put it in simple terms, you can make progress from a technical standpoint but be blocked from a political aspect, meaning that the technical assessment is, at times, presented through a political lens," President Siljanovska Davkova told reporters.

In its country report released last week, the EC said the Macedonian authorities continued to work on the roadmaps on the rule of law, public administration reform and the functioning of democratic institutions, and the action plan on the protection of minorities. The report noted it is important for North Macedonia to advance and finalise all the preparatory work related to the opening benchmarks for the fundamentals cluster.

"The Council outlined to North Macedonia the terms for opening accession negotiations on the first cluster (fundamentals) once the constitutional amendments are adopted. In response, in December 2023, the authorities of North Macedonia adopted the roadmaps on the rule of law and public administration reform," reads the report.
