Skopje, 6 October 2025 (MIA) - SDSM's mayoral candidates for the City of Skopje and the Municipality of Karposh, Kaja Shukova and Maja Mojsova, presented Monday their ideas on how to address the lack of parking spaces and chaotic urban planning in the city.
At a press conference in Karposh, Shukova highlighted parking and urban planning as a top priority in SDSM’s election program. The candidate for Skopje Mayor said she intends to introduce smart parking lots with digital payment, zones in the periphery connected to public transport, and real-time information.
“Through the ‘Skopje for All’ strategy we are also ensuring subsidized parking for low-income families, pensioners, young unemployed people and people with disabilities. Every new urban development project will have to include parking space, green areas, and pedestrian areas – not after construction, but as a prerequisite,” Shukova added.
She said urban planning would be transparent, with plans made accessible online and the chance for public suggestions to be made.
“We will adopt a new, strict and environmental general urban plan. In the first two to four years we will draft the Skopje 2050 strategy, a long-term vision for a smart and sustainable city, with mixed urban zones and well-organized public spaces,” Shukova said.
The party’s candidate for Karposh Mayor, Maja Mojsova, said the lack of parking space is directly connected to the uncontrolled urban development. Mojsova stressed the residents of Karposh should have priority when it comes to parking and added that they are considering the construction of a modular parking garage to relieve pressure for both the residents and those coming from other municipalities.
The two candidates vowed to employ a systemic approach, transparency, and long-term solutions in order to restore order in urban living and improve the daily lives of the citizens.
