Seven-year-old dies in Tetovo hospital, of unknown causes

Tetovo, 22 September 2025 (MIA) — A seven-year-old girl has died at the Tetovo Clinical Hospital after an IV drip to replenish lost fluid and an oropharyngeal suctioning of secretions failed, hospital sources told MIA's Tetovo correspondent.

The girl was brought to the hospital from the Tetovo village of Chelopek. She was hospitalized Saturday evening and died Sunday.

"The patient was admitted to the Pediatric Unit on Sept. 20, 2025, at 8:40 pm. Аll necessary steps were taken in line with current medical protocols to make the correct diagnosis," the hospital sources said.

"From the moment she was admitted, all necessary medical measures were taken to address her health condition, including intensive rehydratation," they said.

An ENT physician was also called in.

"The Otorhinolaryngology Unit was asked to help in the suctioning of secretions from the oral cavity," the sources said, adding that during the intervention, the child did not show any signs of life.

"She was urgently transferred to the Anesthesia, Reanimation and Intensive Care Unit, where all necessary resuscitation measures were taken.

"Despite the medical team's best efforts, the patient passed away," they said.

The hospital requested a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of the death. The girl's family, however, has refused an autopsy.

Extending their condolences to the family, hospital staff said they were ready to cooperate with the authorities regarding the case. mr/
