SDSM wants NSA documents related to claims of Mickoski's wiretapping declassified

Skopje, 11 September 2025 (MIA) - SDSM repeated Thursday its call for declassification of the documents in the case involving claims that Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski was wiretapped by the National Security Agency (NSA) while in opposition.
"The scandal that VMRO-DPMNE exposed on the alleged abuse by the NSA is another political construct without any grounds, the only aim being to create a false image ahead of the elections," SDSM leader Venko Filipche told a press conference while urging institutions to declassify the documents.
Filipche said they have nothing to run away from, noting that the NSA was not abused in any way during SDSM's reign. According to him, the Government's refusal to disclose the documents was because it would only show that the affair is made up and planted.
"The Government should only declassify the materials. This is very simple. If they really want the public to know what had happened, then they should allow for insight into the documents. If there was surveillance, we should see who was the subject, why and on whose order," said Filipche.
He expressed regret that none of the MPs were given access to those materials, although they hold security clearances, "which is a violation of the Constitution."
On the resolution related to the country's EU integration process, the SDSM leader said they are paying a lot of attention to details.
"It is nearly ready and I will elaborate it before the public and forward it to the Parliament early next week. All parties should give their input in this resolution, this is not something that is set in stone," said Filipche.
He said it would be best if parties provided their opinions, followed by a discussion on the resolution in the Parliament.
"The materials could be reviewed until the local elections, parties can provide their suggestions, and discussion would take place right after the elections. We could even do it before the vote, I am open to all options," underlined Filipche.
