Skopje, 12 July 2025 (MIA) - The Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor's Office has opened proceedings against two people for the crime of "violence". The first suspect on Friday threatened and physically attacked the Mayor of Skopje while she was carrying out an extraordinary inspection of an illegal construction on Sevastopolska Street together with a team of city service employees. The suspect, as stated, presented himself as the owner of the building under construction, and began to rudely insult and threaten the Mayor, after which he physically attacked her.
"When the other city employees and members of the Ministry of Interior reacted and removed the first suspect, the second suspect continued to make threats. With the act of violence, the two suspects caused a feeling of insecurity, threat, and fear in the public and among the other people present," the Public Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.
A public prosecutor has submitted a proposal to a pre-trial judge of the Skopje-based Criminal Court to order a detention measure against the first suspect, primarily due to risk of repeating the crime, risk of carrying out the act he threatened to commit, as well as due to flight risk.
Precautionary measures have been proposed against the second suspect, including ban on approaching and establishing contact with the Mayor and the other injured parties, ban on leaving the place of residence, seizure of travel document, and reporting to court authorities.
