Police thwart migrant smuggling ring, detain six

Skopje, 14 July 2025 (MIA) - The police and a public prosecutor from the department for organized crime and corruption have conducted an operation against an organized criminal group involved in migrant smuggling at the territory of North Macedonia.
Six persons were arrested in the operation, with the police thwarting an attempt for smuggling of six migrants from China, one of whom a minor, in the process, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

Starting from April, the suspects smuggled illegal migrants from Serbia through illegal crossings in the so-called "green border", in the vicinity of Lojane village. From there, they were transported to Gevgelija in order to be smuggled via illegal border crossings to Greece.
The migrants from China have been transferred to the Gazi Baba reception center in Skopje, reads the press release.
The police also conducted searches at five locations in Skopje and Kumanovo, seizing three passenger vehicles, cell phones, SIM cards, cash etc.
Investigation in the case is underway.
