PM expects 'all types of engineering' in EP, nothing surprises him in absence of guarantees

Skopje, 1 July 2025 (MIA) - I expect all types of engineering in the European Parliament and I am much more cautious when it comes to this issue, preferring to use the quote 'don't listen to what people say, watch what they do instead,' said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Tuesday.

"On the report that Members of the European Parliament are set to discuss, I expect all types of engineering. I wouldn't be surprised by anything. I am a bit cautious when it comes to the issue of identity. Yes, we are carrying this deeply inside of us, but I must also say that we have lost a big chunk of our identity over the past three decades by changing the flag and the name, while amending the Constitution on several occasions. In the absence of guarantees that this is the final identity concession we have to make, I would be much more cautious when it comes to this, preferring to use the quote 'don't listen to what people say, watch what they do instead,'" PM Mickoski told a joint press conference with European Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.

He added that Ilinden revolutionaries Goce Delchev, Dame Gruev and Jane Sandanski are also part of the Macedonian identity, something that he is not sure Bulgaria would agree with.

"For me, the wonderful Macedonian cuisine is not the only identity, but (Goce) Delchev, (Kuzman) Shapkarev, Miladinov brothers, the Ilinden Uprising, Damjan Gruev, Jane Sandanski...I don't know if my eastern colleagues share the same opinion, but these people are part of our identity, the Macedonian identity," said Mickoski.
