Skopje, 28 May 2025 (MIA) — Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi will give a speech before Parliament on his one year in office. 

Gashi was elected to the post of parliament speaker with 76 votes in favor and six against. 

He is the leader of the Alternativa party, which is part of the Worth It coalition. His election was supported by VMRO-DPMNE, the Worth It coalition and the ZNAM Movement.

In his first statement as parliament speaker, Gashi had said he was aware of the responsibility he was given and he would guarantee each lawmaker's right to voice their political views freely. He said Parliament was a place to show respect for different opinions.

The current Parliament, the 11th since the beginnings of pluralism in the country, was constituted on this day a year ago.

It comprises members of six political parties and coalitions: VMRO-DPMNE's Your Macedonia coalition has 58 parliamentary seats, SDSM's European Future coalition has 18, DUI's European Front also has 18, the Worth It coalition has 14, Levica has six and the ZNAM Movement also has six parliamentary seats. mr/
