Parliament elects new State Election Commission members
- During its 83rd session on Wednesday, the Parliament elected Bojan Marichikj as President of the State Election Commission (SEC) with 83 votes in favour. Abdush Demiri was appointed Vice President and Aleksandar Dashtevski, Angelcho Ristov, Svetlana Karapetrova, Boris Kondarko and Ditmire Shehu were named Commission members.
Skopje, 28 January 2026 (MIA) – During its 83rd session on Wednesday, the Parliament elected Bojan Marichikj as President of the State Election Commission (SEC) with 83 votes in favour. Abdush Demiri was appointed Vice President and Aleksandar Dashtevski, Angelcho Ristov, Svetlana Karapetrova, Boris Kondarko and Ditmire Shehu were named Commission members.
During the continuation of the session, MPs chose Limko Bejzaroski and Natasha Ahmed as members of the Commission for Prevention and Protection from Discrimination. Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi stated that candidate Jihan Ahmed had withdrawn her nomination.
Parliament passed amendments to the Criminal Code. According to the ruling VMRO-DPMNE, the changes eliminate possible negative effects from the September 2023 amendments and improve certain provisions to bring the Code in line with European and international standards in combating organized crime and corruption. Levica MPs opposed the law, claiming it serves the interests of officials in the ruling majority.
MPs did not approve the proposed amendments to the Law on Energy submitted by Levica party, which sought to abolish the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and transfer its responsibilities to the Ministry of Energy.
