Parliament committee nominates Faton Selami for new Ombudsperson

Skopje, 31 July 2025 (MIA) - The Parliament's Committee on Election and Appointment Issues decided Thursday to nominate Faton Selami for new Ombudsperson, replacing Naser Ziberi in the post following his retirement.

Committee chairperson Gjorgjija Sajkoski said 17 candidates applied at the call for Ombudsperson election.

Selami graduated at the Faculty of Law within the Tetovo State University and received his M.A. at the University of Southeast Europe. He has a long-standing experience in the field of human rights' defense and promotion. He previously worked at the Office of the Ombudsperson, the Ministry of Justice and other state institutions.

The Ombudsperson is elected for a period of eight years, with the right for re-election.

The Committee decision will be forwarded for discussion at a plenary session.
