North Macedonia ranks 51st on Global Peace Index 2025

Skopje, 24 June 2025 (MIA) - As the world is shaken by war, violence, and instability, the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) has released its latest Global Peace Index (GPI), which ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness. 

European countries are among the most peaceful, with Iceland at the top of the list. In the neighbourhood, Slovenia ranks 9th, Croatia ranks 19th, Bulgaria 29th, Greece 45th, Bosnia and Herzegovina 59th, Kosovo 63rd, Serbia 64th, etc. The top 20 most peaceful countries in the world include Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland, Singapore, Portugal, Denmark, Slovenia, Finland, Czechia, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Canada, Belgium, Hungary, Australia, Croatia and Germany.

This year’s results found that the average level of global peacefulness deteriorated by 0.36 per cent, with 74 countries improving and 87 deteriorating in peacefulness. 

North Macedonia ranks 51st, followed by Albania and the United Arab Emirates, which share the 52nd spot. 

Of the world powers, the United Kingdom ranks 30th, France 74th, the United States 128th, Iran 142nd, Israel 155th, while Ukraine and Russia are in the least peaceful countries, ranked 162nd and 163rd, respectively.
