No violations recorded so far of school basket implementation

Skopje, 20 August 2025 (MIA) – No violations have been reported so far regarding the school basket as the State Market Inspectorate is on the ground overseeing whether the school basket is being implemented as agreed, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday.

“The government at an August 5 session decided to secure, together with retailers, a discount of school supplies between 10 and 15 percent of the margin with June 1, 2025 prices serving as a reference. Retailers are tasked with tagging the June 1 price on products and offering a 10-15-percent discount after putting a sign at the store entrance reading ‘Less costs, more for you’. The State Market Inspectorate is on the ground to see if the measure is respected. So far, there are no violations of what has been agreed,” Mickoski told reporters after a visit to Kochani.

After entering into force on August 15, the School Basket measure, which ends on September 15, aims at facilitating the household budget of parents with school-age children. The basket contains all the necessary products for the start of school year with June 1 prices – down by 10 to 15 percent from the current ones.

According to an August 15 government decision, prices of school supplies, including coloring pencils, markers, notebooks, are lowered.
