Nikoloski: Strategic partnership agreement to be ratified in two weeks, construction work set for autumn

Skopje, 23 May 2025 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski, who signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement in London, expects it to be ratified in Parliament within two weeks, with construction work starting in the autumn.

Nikoloski told national broadcaster MRTV that the agreement is of dual importance financial and political, as it will enhance the country’s strategic position in international processes.

"When we fight for the recognition of the Macedonian language, for the acknowledgment of the Macedonian national minority in neighbouring countries, for the rights of Macedonians, and for Macedonia to be heard loud and clear—we need strong partners to support us in this process. I believe the United Kingdom is one such partner," Nikoloski said.

According to Nikoloski, citizens will feel the benefits of this agreement in the coming years.

“We must keep in mind that the United Kingdom is offering its greatest minds, its most valuable people, to help develop Macedonia. They are providing expert assistance in all areas where we have needs. They are making available professionals from both the public administration and the business community, whose goal is to help Macedonia progress and elevate Macedonian society to a higher level. We’re talking about the second most powerful country in the world after the United States. We’re talking about the only surviving royal empire, a nuclear power, a member of the UN Security Council, a victor in World War II, and one of the world’s top five economies. I don’t think Macedonia could ask for a better partner,” Nikoloski added.

The agreement, worth €6 billion, was signed in London on Thursday, with the first tranche between €2 and €2.2 billion.
