Skopje, 1 July 2025 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche called Tuesday for a national consensus among all political stakeholders so that the country continues the EU integration process.
Filipche told reporters after the meeting with European Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos that the party remains fully committed to the Euro-integration process and that this is the only way for the country to strengthen its capacities, so that citizens' standard improves and the legal system is truly reformed.
"It is regretful to see stagnation on this path over the past year, a lack of strategy, policy and dialogue, whereas already closed issues are opened again. I asked the Commissioner for support, from her personally but from European institutions as well, to unlock our Euro-integration path. This is not a time for calculations or petty partisan interests. This is a time for every party to give everything so that we continue our Euro-integration path, to open negotiating chapters, because citizens expect this from us," said Filipche.
He said the meeting with the Commissioner was constructive, demonstrating the continued and sincere support that the EU provides to the country.
"She was very sincere and said she is using all instruments at disposal for continuation of the country's Euro-integration path. Nevertheless, there is one part of the task that we have to do at home, because this process mostly depends on the national consensus, as was the case with other countries that have joined the EU," said Filipche.
