Mucunski visits Pustec, says will ask Albanian FM to open a Macedonian consulate in Korçë

Debar, 2 July 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski paid a visit Wednesday to Pustec, Albania, where he met with the Macedonian community, Euronews Albania reports.

In a statement to the media, Mucunski said the Macedonian Government should do more for the community, adding that he would ask his Albanian counterpart to open a Macedonian consulate in Korçë.

“Here in Pustec we have our Macedonian community. I came here with the Minister of Interior, and soon the Minister of Culture will join us as well. The community has contributed to Albanian society, and we as a Government must do more for the Macedonian minority in Pustec. We need to fund social and cultural projects in this area. And we also need a higher level of consular presence. Next week I will meet my colleague (Albania’s Foreign Minister) Igli Hasani in Ohrid, we have a fantastic relationship. I will also ask the Albanian minister to open a Macedonian consulate in Korçë,” Mucunski said.

Asked about the meetings the prime ministers of Albania and Kosovo had with Albanian parties in North Macedonia, Mucunski said the two were invited to a “successful” summit on the European agenda.

“I can say it was a summit that went well. Political activities are normal everywhere. I am a believer in democracy. Yes, we have elections coming up soon, and as a ruling coalition, we are confident we will win based on the work we’ve done. We are a multiethnic society,” Mucunski said.

FM Mucunski and Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski also met with the Mayor of Pustec, Pali Kolefski, as part of their visit.
