Skopje, 21 May 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski said Wednesday that adopted amendments to the Law on Foreign Affairs represent a key step for the professionalization of diplomacy and improvement of conditions for Macedonian diplomats serving abroad.
Minister Mucunski wrote in a Facebook post that the amendments, which the Parliament adopted yesterday, set a clear legal framework for professionalism in diplomacy and establishing the jurisdiction of the Ministry in the field of foreign trade and investments.
Mucunski says the changes ensure an increase of the percentage of ambassadors from the order of career diplomats, extension of the diplomats' term from three to four years, and regulation of the procedure of appointing ambassadors and the Parliament's role in this regard. In addition, the changes stipulate the appointment of a special state representative abroad if in the country's specific interest.
"In addition, the amendments ensure that the Ministry systematically takes over tasks related to creating policies for foreign trade and investments, a segment that was not regulated in any other law until now," says Mucunski.
